The University of Copenhagen’s newly established Center for Digital Education is seeking an associate professor (a permanent position) to help develop the Center’s profile in computational thinking research. The position description can be found here and at the bottom of this email. 


The
University of Copenhagen is a highly ranked university situated in a very livable city. The Center for Digital Education was launched in January as a joint effort between the Department of Science Education and the Department of Computer Science, with the specific aim of fostering interaction between the technical and pedagogical aspects of digital education.

Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen is seeking candidates for an associate professorship in Computational Thinking to contribute to a recently established Center for Digital Education.
Computational Thinking is a transdisciplinary research area that combines technological and didactical research about digital competencies, problems solving and design, as well as computer science education. Research approaches include development of educational initiatives supported by technological solutions that aim at developing computational thinking for students, as well as research programs investigating possibilities and challenges with such initiatives.
The Associate professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations, within Computational thinking. Furthermore, the associate professor is expected to actively take part in building the Center for Digital Education as a strong axis between digital competencies, learning analytics, machine learning and pedagogy.
The Associate professor should have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research and funding abilities, and is expected to take active part in developing both the intellectual approach of the Center for Digital Education, as well as its funding portfolio.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
The position is affiliated with the Center for Digital Education which is a joint effort between Department of Science Education and Department of Computer Science, which aims at connecting experts from computer science and science education to explore the possibilities and consequences of the digitalization of STEM education across the school system. The associate professor will join the Machine Learning Section at the Department of Computer Science and the Center for Digital Education. The activities of the Machine Learning Section range from research into the theoretical foundations of machine learning to applications within a broad set of domains, including natural language processing, information retrieval, medical image analysis and modelling of biological data. The Associate Professor will be employed at the Department of Computer Science but the obligations related to the position will be shared among the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Science Education.
